History Of The E-Pro Cat
The saga of the E-ProCat began when a customer asked us to re-build and modify his Accord. We went through the normal re-build with the exception of a mild porting of the cylinder head. When the engine was completed, and we were in the process of re-installation, the design of the stock exhaust brought that to a halt. We challenged ourselves to see if we could design a better flowing exhaust header, one that would also not cause a “Check Engine” code. The second part of our mandate was “Make it OEM” compatible to the stock or aftermarket exhaust systems.
The search for the “Cat” was on. The staff at E-Shift compared and evaluated “Cats” that would meet our desired goals. The decision after our search concluded with “The Metal Cats”. Now it was time to build the transition portion of the header system. We tried to locate a company that had transition bends that would enable us to complete the header, but, there were none. The staff designed and custom made the first transitions, and they were incorporated in the construction. The header system was fabricated and tested for fitment and clearance. Needless to say, “How many times it was connected and disconnected and connected and”…. you get the point. The E-ProCat is also wrapped for added heat protection, and for a more race oriented appeal.
Now Testing of the header system (E-ProCat) was conducted on our Dynojet machine. One of our close associates and customer agreed for us to test the E-ProCat on his 2004 Acura TL and see if it was worth the effort. Our base run resulted with 227whp and 204wtrq. After the installation of the E-ProCat, we were astonished by the initial gains (10whp and 6wtrq). Were made three more pulls to confirm our results, and each time the power was increased. The last Dyno session produced 256.5whp and 227.5wtrq. That’s 29whp and 21.4wtrq gain…. We ask our associate to conduct a test and see how it responded on the street. The street test results were impressive, this also included an increase in Fuel Economy (he drives over 100miles round trip a day). The introduction to the public came about by urging from “Nitrotiger”, he wanted us to produce a few for his friends, mostly via the “TL Forum”. The response to say the least has been encouraging. We have excerpts and responses from the forum, and these can be furnished upon request, or, just by login to the web site itself. We have also attached the Dyno sheets of various runs on different cars with similar setups on the pictures above. The results as you can see is very repeatable, independent of the differences of car components (exhaust, intakes, superchargers etc;).
